Jungkook (정국) of BTS (방탄소년단) achieved a remarkable triple crown at the '2024 MAMA AWARDS' (commonly referred to as 'MAMA'), held on November 23 at the Kyocera Dome Osaka in Japan.
The artist won the 'Best Male Artist' and 'Best Dance Performance Male Solo' awards. On the previous day, he also claimed the 'Fans' Choice Male Top 10' trophy during Chapter 1 of the awards, bringing his total tally to three major wins.
Jungkook was named the winner of the 'Best Dance Performance Male Solo' for his title track 'Standing Next to You' from his first solo album 'GOLDEN,' released in November 2023. The song solidified his reputation as a leading dance solo artist of the decade, showcasing his impeccable performances. His choreography, including the iconic opening sequence featuring a standing microphone and his commanding solo dance aura, captivated music fans globally. Additionally, the release of 'Standing Next to You - Usher Remix' in December 2023 further highlighted Jungkook's artistry, as he collaborated with R&B legend Usher in a groundbreaking performance video.
The members of BTS collectively won seven trophies at the event, with Jimin (지민) securing two awards, including the prestigious 'VISA Fans' Choice of the Year' and 'Fans' Choice Male Top 10.' RM and V also took home 'Fans' Choice Male Top 10' awards.
Notably, BTS has continued their six-year streak of winning 'Fans' Choice of the Year' since the category's inception in 2018. This year, Jimin took over the mantle, demonstrating the group's unwavering popularity.
Jungkook's achievements come on the heels of his groundbreaking solo career. His first solo single, 'Seven (feat. Latto),' released in July 2023, became an instant global phenomenon. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and broke records on Spotify by surpassing one billion streams in the shortest time in the platform’s history.
Subsequent solo releases such as '3D (feat. Jack Harlow)' in September 2023 and 'Standing Next to You' in November 2023 also made impressive debuts on the Billboard Hot 100, both entering the chart at No. 5. Jungkook remains the only Korean solo artist to have three songs rank in the top five of this prestigious chart.
