Even in the Military, BTS is BTS! Jimin and Jungkook Nominated for 2024 BBMAs
BTS (방탄소년단) members Jimin (지민) and Jungkook (정국) have once again demonstrated their global popularity by being named finalists at the '2024 Billboard Music Awards' (BBMAs).
According to the finalists list announced on November 25 (local time), Jimin and Jungkook were both nominated in the categories of 'Top Global K-Pop Artist' and 'Top Global K-Pop Song.' This marks their second consecutive year being recognized at the BBMAs for their solo activities, solidifying their status as top K-pop icons.
Jimin earned a nomination for 'Top Global K-Pop Song' with 'Who,' the title track of his second solo album, 'MUSE.' The song debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release, making it Jimin’s sixth solo track to enter the chart. It continues to be a fan favorite, remaining on the Hot 100 for an impressive 17 consecutive weeks.
Jungkook is also aiming for a second consecutive win in the same category with his solo single '3D (feat. Jack Harlow)' and the title track of his solo album 'GOLDEN,' 'Standing Next to You.' Additionally, 'Standing Next to You' has been nominated in the 'Top Selling Song' category. Both '3D (feat. Jack Harlow)' and 'Standing Next to You' entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 5 upon their respective releases.
The album 'GOLDEN,' which features 'Standing Next to You,' has been nominated for 'Top K-Pop Album.' The album has made history by remaining on the Billboard 200 for 24 consecutive weeks, setting a record for the longest-charting album by a Korean solo artist.
Jungkook’s dominance continues with a nomination for 'Top Song Sales Artist,' making him the first K-pop solo artist to achieve this recognition. With nominations in a total of six categories, Jungkook is the most-nominated K-pop artist at this year’s BBMAs.
Meanwhile, BTS has a storied history at the BBMAs, having won a total of 12 awards, including 'Top Social Artist' (2017–2021), 'Top Duo/Group' (2019, 2021–2022), 'Top Song Sales Artist' (2021–2022), and 'Top Selling Song' (2021–2022). Last year, Jungkook received the award for 'Top Global K-Pop Song' with his solo single 'Seven (feat. Latto).'
The BBMAs are widely regarded as one of the most prestigious music awards in the United States, alongside the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, and MTV VMAs. This year’s ceremony is set to take place on December 12 and will be broadcast on FOX and Amazon Fire TV Channel, with streaming available later on Paramount+.
